What’s going on? Download

I am well, thanks. I haven’t been able to make much music this week, and I am off to Download (the heavy metal and hard rock festival here in the UK) this week, so the same goes again for music making.

I’m looking forward to seeing some kick-ass metal though, and there are some great acts scheduled over the four days of the festival. The mighty Metallica is one of those acts – they are performing on two separate nights at this year’s Download (Thursday and Saturday). Twice the metal fun. In fact, the band has a whole tour of double-date shows in cities up to the end of 2024. So in each city, they play two shows, each with a different set, and are encouraging fans to pay to see both separate gigs.

The weird thing (to me) is that they say, “Most of the shows will be on Fridays and Sundays, so we’ll be sure to have lots of extracurricular events for you to hang with fellow Metallica fans before the shows kick off and on the Saturday night in between.” That may be so, and having a day off in between shows is expensive for both the band and fans. For instance, fans might need an extra day’s accommodation or have to commute three times instead of two. Similarly, Metallica will have to cover costs such as wages, rentals, transport, and accommodations, even on days without shows. From a practical standpoint, it seems more logical to have back-to-back shows instead of leaving a day in between.

What do you think? Is there a reason why they want to make it a three-day, two-show, event? Let me know!

TRACK OF THE WEEK

MetallicaFor Whom The Bell Tolls‘.
Well, of course. I know ‘Master of Puppets’ got all the glory when it was recently used in ‘Stranger Things’, but ‘For Whom..’ is a far superior track IMHO. What do you think? ‘Master’, or ‘Bells’? Let me know in the comments or drop me a line!
