What is your feeling about DJ’s playing out ‘ironic’, or ‘guilty pleasure’ type tracks? You know, the odd, almost cheesy, tunes that get played out, with the understanding that their inclusion in the set is supposed to be ‘ironic’, and that ‘a good tune is a good tune’, and other justifications. ‘Africa’ by Toto being played out as a set closer in Ibiza all summer is an example of what I mean. Is playing that track supposed to be ‘ironic’?
I’m not being a kill joy. I want to know what you think and yes, a good tune is a good tune. I’m not sure is ‘Africa’ fills that brief though. And especially not ‘Sultans of Swing’ by Dire Straits. Which I heard as the closer in an otherwise impeccable set the other night.
Let me know – guilty pleasure or waste of performance time? Post in the comment, or use the contact form. Thanks!
